Life is joyful, beautiful and a rich blessing, but also difficult, painful and mysterious. As spiritual directors we often find ourselves alongside those who are working through events and experiences that are neither planned for, nor wanted, nor understood.
This morning will draw on imagery from the Christian spiritual tradition to explore the part struggle plays within human growth and our experience of God, with insights from the writings of John of the Cross, Julian of Norwich and George Herbert,
Christopher Chapman is an experienced spiritual director and retreat leader. He is an associate tutor at St. Augustine’s College of Theology and is a guest director at St. Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre. He is the author of Seeing in the Dark, Earthed in God: Four movements of spiritual growth and Send my Roots Rain: Refreshing the spiritual life of priests.
